THE Conqueror—Listener filly Listen (a half-sister to the Wellington Cup winner, Moloch) is putting up a good record as a second-day performer. She scored on the second, day at Trentham, Wairarapa, and Masterton. She is .owned by Mr. 6. Foreman, who used to race Full Rate. Although there were only four runners for the Trentham Gold Cup and the race was run in a steady downpour, over £4000 was invested on the race. Backers would, not have Leger form as correct, and Cherubim tarried more than double the amount invested on Merrie Roe, whose backers received only one shilling less than on Thursday. J. Buchanan, who evidently thoroughly understands the Soult filly, rode her a different race from the previous aay ; and defeated the Martian colt more easily. The Winter Cup winner, Parky, is engaged in the Marlborough Cup, but may not be forward enough to show his best form. Other members of the Porirua team engaged at the meeting are Hoopee, Stepney, and Aratiatia. The lastr-named ra-ced prominently at Masterton, Wairarapa, and Trentham. Belasco (the half-brother to Giosv Belle) has scored the last three times he started, and will- in future have to com-

pete in open company. A visitor from Auckland, who saw him scored in a field of twenty at Ellerslie, said it was like getting money from Home supporting the chestnut at Trentham. The juvenile, races at Trentham went to the two Riccarton-trained Marxian fillies, Honesty and Bee. The latter made a very feeble effort to finish on the first day at five furlongs, but on . ; Saturday saw out another three furlongs. Elevate and Haumakaha, who raced into second places at Trentham, are engaged in the Maiden and .Scurry races at Blenheim. Bertrada is expected to make her next appearance in thei Porangahau Handicap at Hastings, and is well in with 8.6. On the second day at Riccarton she won with 9.4. Peroneal and Peronilla are to make the journey to Blenheim. The former and Ratana have both strong claims on the Cup. The Welter race on the second day should suit Monologue. This season the Advance gelding won on the second day at Manawatu, Wellington, Palmerston. Nelson, and Feilding. Mr. Whitney will be represented at Blenheim next week by Odessa and Mt. Victoria. The latter scored at Wairarapa and Trentham. Sir Saracen, who raced consistently at the Makterton, Wairarapa, and Trentham meetings, ia nicely placed in the six furlongs hack race at Blenheim; Royal Scout, who dead-heated with Chakwana at Tauherenikau, promises well in the five furlongs event..
