PRINCE OF WALKS THEATRE.
Last evening Shakespeare's tradgedy of the "Merchant of Venice" was produced to a crowded house, and was a most unequivocal success, proving beyond a doubt —if any doubt remained upon the public mind after Mr. Edwards' impersonation of " Hamlet"—that the lessee of the Prince of Wales is fitted in every respect to do justice to the conceptions ot the great English poet. We most heartily congratulate Auckland upon the possession of such an actor as Mr. Edwards, and only hope that he may continue to guide and direct the Prince of Wales for many n long year to come. We have not here space to give a lengthened notice, but again repeat that Mr. Edwards' impersonation 'if the revengeful Jew was carried out to the life. Miss Juno sustained the part of Portia with great ability. Both she and the manager were called before the curtain at the conclusion of the piece. Mr. Cox appeared in the afterpiece, "The Lottery Ticket," which was loudly applauded. The performances were under the patronage of the different Grand Auckland Masonic Lodges.
