CONCERT AT THE CATHOLIC INSTITUTE.
A concert was held in the Catholic Institute, Wellington-strect, on Monday’ evening, under the patronage of the Right Rev. Dr. Pompallicr, Bishop of Auckland, and passed off very successfully. The object of the concert was to defray the expense of a harmonium for the church in the TNituTitaT"cemetery. On his Lordship’s entering the hall, a beautiful piece was executed on the piano. The ball was crowded, and many bad to content themselves with standing during the whole performance. The concert was opened by “The Shamrock,”quartette, very effectively given ; and followed by “My own, my Guiding Star,” sung by Mr. Brett, who appeared in excellent voice. “ St. Patrick’s Day " was sung by Miss Shanaghan, and “Afton Water ” by Mr. Bowden, in very good style. The enchanting air, “ Last Rose of Summer,” was given on the piano ]by Miss Beavan, in exquisite time. The other performances were “Minstrel Boy," j quartette ; “ Fairy Bark," sung by Alias ‘ • “ Hear me, Norma,” duet, sung ' IVUIISb , ’ , by Miss laylor and Miss bh«... b , “ Dame Purdcn,” sung by Messrs. Howden, Skinner, and Henderson, and which concluded the first part of the evening’s entertainment. An interval of 15 minutes then took place, and the second part was commenced by the ever-welcome air of “ Home, Sweet Homo,” played on the piano by Aliss Beavan; followed by “ Health to the Outward Bound,” trio. Aliss Taylor then sang “ There is no love like a Alother’s ;" which was followed by “Get up and Bar the Door,” sung by Air. Howden. Aliss Kunst gave on the piano, “La Franjai.se followed by “ Village Choristers," glee; and “ Kate Kearney,” •ling by Aliss Shanaghan. Air. Howden and Aliss Shanaghan also sang “ 'flic Warrior Page,” which was followed by “ The Laughing Trio,” sung by Alessrs. Howden, Skinner, and Render,son. 'The proceedings terminated by singing “ God Save the Queen."
