DEATH OF THE REV. NORMAN McLEOD.
The steamer which arrived from Wangarei on Saturd iy evening brought the melancholy news of the death of the Rev. Norman McLeod, Presbyterian minister, of Waipu and Wangarei Heads. Air. McLeod, who bad reached a patriarchal age, has been for some time past in such weak health, that bis death cannot be said to have taken his friends by surprise ; but we are sure that •every one who knew the good old gentleman will grieve sincerely for bis loss. Air. McLeod was in many respects a remarkable man. He was one of the older generation of Highland divines, non nearly extinct even in the north of Scotland, who were of such stern stuff as martyrs are made of, and no one who knew Norman McLeod could have helped thinking that he would hj ive cheerfully gone to the stake for the very jots and tittles of his creed, lie left Scotland with the people of whom he was pastor at the time of the Highland clearances, settled with them in Nova Scotia, and ag tin crosse 1 the ocean with them, or their children, n,. T'W W Zealand. Air. AlcLood was an excellent scholar, and possessed great natural ability, with thorough honesty and generosity of disposition.
