CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
A meeting of the Chamber of Commerce took place on Thursday afternoon, in the rooms, Fort-street, at 3 o’clock. There were present—J. A. Gilfillan, Esq., Chairman ; Messrs. S. VT. Hill, D, Nathan, R. Lusk, Clayton, S. 11. Smith. The minutes of the previous sitting were read and confirmed. ALTERATION IN WEIGHTS AND MEASURES AND THE CURRENCY. The Chairman brought before the meeting a letter from Mr. Sinclair, North Shore, suggesting alterations in the present, system of weights and measures and in the system of coinage. Ordered to be laid on the table. HILLS Of SALK. Mr. Lusk gave notice that he would, on next sitting day, move “ That in the opinion of this Chamber, the present system of “ Bills of Sale ’’ (as by law established) is injurious to fair legitimate trading and to mercantile morally, and that the co-operation of the other Chambers of Commerce in New Zealand should be invited in moving the Government to introduce a bill into the General Assembly to place “ Bill of Sale ” on the same footing ns other debts, or otherwise to grant relief from their injurious operation.” This being the whole of the business before the Chamber, the meeting separated.
