ARRIVAL OF SPECIAL SETTLERS.
The ship '.Mary Shepherd,' Captain Crott, anchored in these waters on Thursday, 105 days out, with a general cargo and 192 passengers. Amongst the latter are the first instalment of a special settlement party, for location at the Kawakawa, Bay of Islands, which has been organised in 1 * the North of Ireland, and comprises a very desirable body of settlers. The 'Mary Shepherd,' put into the Ray of Islands on Sunday last, and on the following day landed such of her passengers as were desirous of commencing the work of settlement on the waste lands of this province, without further delay. 40 members of the party were landed, accompanied by the principal promoter of the scheme, the Rev. Richard A. Hall, and family, and the Surgeon-superintendent in charge, Dr. Biuden, who proceeded to the barracks prepared and set aside for their especial occupation, until tnc preliminary work of preparing for the erection of homesteads on their own land is completed, and the party enabled to make a fair start in the cultivation of a portion of their lands. Nearly one half the party preferred coming on to Auckland before settling at the Bay, no doubt in order to gain a better idea of the province which they have chosen as their future home. We trust that, wilh the many facilities provided for successful settlement on a desirable block of land, these members of the party will not be long inclined to stay away from the settlement, bttf speedily join their friends, and assist in the work of surmounting the first difficulties of a successful settlement. The following are the trades and occupations of the immigrants per ship 'Mary Shepherd,, which arrived on Thursday : 19 servants (male and female), 2 carpenters, 1 saddler, 2 domestic servants, 1 bootmaker, 13 farmers, 9 labourers, I ironsinith, 1 plumber, 3 gentlemen, 1 soldier, 1 clergyman. Total passengers: English, 99; Irish, 9; Scotch, 84; total 192.
