ELECTION INTELLIGENCE

NOMINATION FOR NEWTON. At noon on Thursday, the election of a representative for the electoral district of Newton in the House of Representatives took place at Mr. Dewar's Schoolhouse, Newton. There was a largo attendance of the principal electors of the district present. Colonel Balneavis, Returning Officer, presided, and read the writ and notice of election. Messrs. John Probert and Stannus .Jones proposed the re-election of Mr. George Graham as a lit and proper person to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives. There being no other candidate, that gentleman was declared unanimously elected. Mr. Graham suitably acknowledged the kindness shown him, and his deep sense of the honour conferred upon him by the electors, by their reposing in him a renewal of their confidence, lie pledged himself to support Separation, and to be regular in his attendance in the House of Representatives ; and, should he have occasion before the lapse of five years to leave for England on private matters, he would place his resignation in the hands of Mr. Probert or Mr. Dignau, so that the interests of the district might not suffer in any way during his absence. A vote of thanks to the Returning Officer concluded the proceedings, which occupied but a few miuuies. REPRESENTATION OF PARNELL. The deputation from the Parnell meeting, held on Tuesday evening, for the purpose of deciding upon the nomination of a fit and proper person to represent the electoral district of Parnell in the next session of the General Assembly, waited, on Wednesday morning, upon his Honor the Superintendent, F, Whitaker, Esq., and was composed of the following gentlemen:—Mr. Reader Wood, chairman of the meeting and spokesman; Major C. Ileaphy, Colonel Nation, Mr. James Wrigley, Mr. IT. Coolahan, and W. Aitken. Mr. Reader Wood said the deputation had waited upon his Honor as the deputation from a public meeting held in Parnell, where a resolution had been unanimously passed requesting his Honor to permit himself to be put in nomination to represent that electoral district in the next session of the General Assembly. His Honor replied in the affirmative to the request, and the deputation then withdrew. THE NOMINATION. Yesterday noon was fixed for the nomination of a fit and proper person to represent Parnell in the forthcoming session of the General Assembly. The Returning Officer had fixed upon the Parnell Dramatic Hall for the nomination, and at twelve o'clock a number of the electors were present. Major Ileaphy stepped forward and proposed Frederick Whitaker, Esq , a3a fit and proper person to serve in the General Assembly for the district of Tut null. Air. Wrigley seconded the motion. No other person coming forward, Colonel Balneavis declared Frederick Whitaker, Esq , a duly elected member of the House of Representatives. Mr. Whitaker then stepped forward and thanked the electors for having returned him. His Honor then proceeded to address them at some length upon the question of Auckland's present position, and concluded by observing that we must and will have Separation. A vote of thanks to the returning officer terminated the proceedings. REPRESENTATION OF THE NORTHERN DIVISION. The nomination and election of two candidates to represent the important and extensive electoral district, of the Northern Division in the ensuing session of the House of Representatives was held at noon on Wednesday, at the Pilot-station, North Shore, in the presence of some of the principal electors of the district. Colonel Balneavis, Returning Officer, presided. Messrs. Allen O'Neill and Thomas M. Machattie proposed the re-election of Thomas Henderson. Esq., and the reelection of James O'Neill, Esq., was proposed by Messrs. D. Sheehan and J. Holmes. There were no other candidates named, and the Returning Officer declared the gentlemen nominated duly elected members of the House of Representatives for the electoral district of tho Northern Division. Mr. James O'Neill in returning thanks on behalf of himself and colleague, who was unuble to be present, through illness, alluded to several questions of public interest deeply atiecting tho welfare of this province. Tho proceedings terminated with a vote of thanks to the Returning Oilicer. A number of the gentlemen present were invited by Mr. O'Neill to partake of luncheon in Messrs. Holmes's Hotel. Mr. Hammond occupied the chair. After partaking of the repast, so liberally provided, suitable toasts were proposed and responded to, and the company enjoyed themselves until the departure of the fcteamor for Auckland. Wo have been requested to state that, although the hour of holding the nominations in the several districts was not mentioned in the official announcements, they will take place at noon on the days mentioned. represbntatio'n of onehunga. The nomination of a fit. and proper person to represent the town of Onehunga in the next session of the General Assembly took place at noon on Wednesday, at the Police-station, Onehunga, before Captain Symonds, R.M., and Returning Officer. Mr. G. M. O'Rorke was nominated by Captain Harrison; and Mr. John Lundon by Mr. Ralph. The show of hands being in favour of Mr. O'Rorke, a poll was demanded by Mr. Lundon. NOMINATION FOR THE PENSIONER SETTLEMENTS. The nomination of a fit and proper person to represent the Pensioner Settlements in the next session of the General Assembly took place at noon o;i Thursday, at the principal pollingplace, the Police-station, Panmure,

before Captain Symonds, L'.M., the Returning Officer. Colonel Frederick Paul de Quiuccy was nominated by Mr. Joseph Brennan, and seconded by Mr. .John Sherry ; and Mr. Richard MoGoe was proposed by Mr. Benjamin Condon, and seconded by Mr. John Donnelly. The shou r of hands was declared to be in favour of Mr. MeGee, and a poll was demanded, and fixed to be taken on Monday next.
