[I'UKSIUY.] The Speaker took the chair a few minutes after three. After the usual prayers, the minutes of the last sitting were read and approved of. Petitions were presented by Mr. Hall, Mr. Buckland, Mr. Crcighton, and Capt. Eraser, and were received. THE CONFISCATE!) LAND. The regulations on the confiscated lands were brought forward, and the House again went into Committee for their further consideration. Considerable discussion then took place upon the various clauses, the whole of which were ultimately passed, several of them having been altered according to the wishes of the majority of the Council. Mr. Buckland said he thought the words "by the advice of his Executive" should be left out on Regulations and Rills. He would like to see the Superintendent wholly responsible. After some discussion the subject dropped. The Speaker then resumed the chair, and Mr. Ball reported progress. Mr. John Williamson then moved that the amendments, as made by the Council, be transmitted to the Superintendent and his Honor be requested to confer on the same. MESSAGES. Message No. 18 was brought up from the Superintendent enclosing accounts and returns. They were referred to the Audit Committee. Mr. Carleton laid upon the table the Reports concerning the Kawa Kawa Coal Mines, and also the correspondence between Captain Daldy and the late Provincial Government on the subject of the Brierly Hill Special Settlement. He also laid upon the table a plan of a market house site in Mr. Hardington's yard. Message No. 1!) was also laid upon the '■ table, relative to the management of the | Auckland Harbour. The Messages were ordered to be printed. ESCONSIDEKATION OF COMPENSATION AWARDS. His Honor's Message, No. 14, was brought up for consideration and the House went into Committee on the subject. Mr. John Willisnison rose to move the following resolution, " That this Committee, having taken into consideration the Superintendent's Message, Xo. 1 1, relative to compensation to parties who have suffered from losses during the war resolves that the Committee concurs with the Superintendent ami requests that his Honor will proceed to give effect to his proposals." In moving this resolution the hon. member said it was not necessary to go into the whole history of the war, all the facts must be too fresh upon the minds of every one present. The Speaker said that £IOO,OOO had been placed at the "disposal of the Superintendent by the General Government, in debentures, 'and when the money was obtained the nwards would be made after a re-investigation of the whole claims. Tt was not necessary now to re-open the matter ; all that was necessary was to pass the resolution giving bis Honour power to carrying his scheme into effect. Mr. Sheehan said that some of the settlers ought to be compensated at once and sent on to their lands. The motion was put to the Council and carried unanimously. The House then resumed, and Mr. Ball reported progress. SLAUGHTER HOVSF. HIM.. This bill was read a second time, and referred to a Select Committee. TllK AUCKLAND MUNICIPAL POLICE BILL. Mr. Carleton brought forward this bill, and moved the second reading. The bill was read a second time, and will be brought up again to-day to be considered in committee of the whole Home. The Council then adjourned at six o'clock.
