ACCIDENTS AND OFFENCES.

A hobsb and cart fell off Custom-home-street Whaif yesterday. In the fall the shaft of the cart was broken ; and some men having des* cended and cut the harness, the animal was liberated, and draw? up again on to the wharf without having sustained any serious damage. Accident in Shobtland-street.—Shortly before noon y< sterday, a man belonging to the Military Train was driving an empty dray with two horses down Shortland-street, when the leading horse shied and got on to the footpath just below our office, and on the same side of the way. Being checked by the driver, he next bolted to the far side of the road, knocking down the man, and also another soldier belonging to the commissariat. The wheel went over the driver's right hand, crushing it very severely, and pearly severing one of his fingers. The other man also narrowly escaped from serious injury. The men of the Military Train are notorious for. somewhat careless driving, and their horses, from being well-fed and tended, are generally rather fresh. Some additional care should certainly be exercised by them, as the public safety, as well as '.heir own; is frequently imperilled in consequence. Another Buiuhno Demolished. - The new store recently erected tor Messrs. Cruickshank and Co., High-street, came to grief yesterday. The back wall, which rested against the hill side, gave way, taking the wall with it, but luckily no other damage ensued. Smotbbkkd. —A considerable crowd Was collected yesterday in Durham-street, in consequence of a drunken man being conveyed by a policeman towards the " lock-up.' The guardian of the peace had some trouble in keeping his charge under way, much to the amusement of the onlookers, when suddenly a cart turned the corner, driven somewhat rapidly, and the policeman endeavoring to get his " charge" out of danger, came to earth, and the mud being rather deep about there, the spectacle which both warden and charge made upon rising again was rather ludicrous.
