Mr. Walter Douglass.—We hoar that this gentlemai, who has been prominently before the. public of Auckland lately, is at present lying in a somewhat dangerous state at the residence of one of his friends. In fact there was a report about town yesterday to the effect ihat Mr. Douglass was dead, this however we found to be quite groundless. Mr. Douglas is suffering from ulcerated sore throat, and we only intrude upon his privacy to contradict a report that, however it originated, caused for a time much regret. \Vaitakerei East.—A meeting for the election of Trustees and for levying a rate was held at the »Vheat Sheaf inn yesterday. We give a repute in full of the proceedings elsewhere. LiAßCasr. —A man named Walters was yesterday taken into custody un a charge of stealing liueu. Pakkell-road.— A public meeting was held last evening in tae Presbyterian Schoolroom, Pur.kell, to receive the report^.of the committee appointed at a former meeii.ig.
