RETURN OF LAND OPEN FOR SELECTION.

Return of land open for selection, 30th September,. 1864. Area open for selection : 55,500 acreß. Area unsubdivideJ : 515,000 acres. Remarks ; The general quality of the land brought into the market this year has been much superior to that of former years. One-half of this land is very questionable for selection. Abstract of unsubdiytded area. Special settlements :—Nonconformist, Church of England, Pollock Settlement ; 81,00:>; 5,550 acres in the Maungatete Block, subdivided, and plan furnished to agent in England, and 19,000 acres Pupuke, the road survev nearlv complete. Bay of Islands Sett ienunt, 41,0 JJ ; 15,000 acres of this amount in the Kawa Kawa block, which requires a ro<urvey. Coromandel district j 12,000 acres. Mercury Bay : 17,003 acres. Mokau district : 40,000 acres ; This block joins the Northern boundary of the Taranaki Province, and hitherto useless for settlement. Total, 191,000 acres. Under survev : 73,000, acres. In preparation for the Gazette : 30,000 ; Gazetted for sale .- 11,500 ; 119,500 acres available during the next six months. Total, 310,500 acres. Balance : 204,500 ; 86,000 ac-es of this, in the Mariwhenua blocK, of little value beyond the one portion which is let as a sheep run. General totals, 515,000 acres.
