By the Zingari we have onr usual Souilh ern exchanges, and to the fallowing dales. Otago, lath September, Canterbury, 3rd, Wellington Gib, and -Nelson and Taranaki, t> the 10th inst. Their pages arc of no interest here, being principally occupied with English news, and Reports of lUe General Assembly. Mr. Picard, formerly Member for Moiueka, died of disease of the heart at Nelson, on the I Till nlto. The correspondent of the Wellington Independent, writing from Wanganui under dale 27th ulto. says. “We felt a rather sharp shock of earthquake on Saturday morning (22nd) half-past four sufficiency heavy to wake all who still slept though not to do any damage. We have since had suiu.i lighter ones though not worth naming.” Letters, from undoubted sources, received in Auckland, represent this shock to have occasioned a good deal of damage. Chimnies were thrown down, and the oilier accompaniments of earthquake were very unpleasantly manifested. The shock is slued to have been likewise severe at Nelson. At Taranaki the Military demonstration has been perfectly successful. The mnra'e of such a sufficient display has accomplished its purpose, and we me happy to learn that a good understanding is likely lobe arrived at on all sides.
