The correspondent of the Wellington Independent, writing from Wanganui under dale 27th ulto. says. “We felt a rather sharp shock of earthquake on Saturday morning (22nd) half-past four sufficiency heavy to wake all who still slept though not to do any damage. We have since had suiu.i lighter ones though not worth naming.” Letters, from undoubted sources, received in Auckland, represent this shock to have occasioned a good deal of damage. Chimnies were thrown down, and the oilier accompaniments of earthquake were very unpleasantly manifested. The shock is slued to have been likewise severe at Nelson. At Taranaki the Military demonstration has been perfectly successful. The mnra'e of such a sufficient display has accomplished its purpose, and we me happy to learn that a good understanding is likely lobe arrived at on all sides.
