NEW PLYMOUTH.
Letters were received in Tpwn y ester J day, from this settlement. The utmost tranquiiity prevails, and the settlers are quietly pursuing their useful occiipatious. Our correspondent says— "This settlement is quietly progressing, tnough we make little noise or shew. The present advance in the price of grain has induced the farmers here to put in more than they intended. As yet we have only caught one whale since the season commenced* but that was. a tolerably large one, yielding 8 tuns of oil.* The letter bears date of the 15th instant.

Walter Lawry, General Superintendant of the Wesley an s Missions in New Zealand; and the South Seas, has returned from his visit to Sydney ; whither he proceeded to confer with the Rev. W. Boyce, on the various official matters connected with the Missions;
