EXEMPTION OF COALMINERS,
DUNEDIN, Scptemucr 8. At n meeting of the Second Division League at' 'Kaitangata, the following ■notion was parried:—"That the attention of the Minister of Defence be drawn to the fact that men who have had no previous experience in coalmining have lately taken up employment in the eoal-mining industry, thereby escaping military servive, and some of them have already been granted exemption. We strongly urge upon the Government to call up all First Division men, and take steps to utilise, men of Class C2 to fill the places of Class A men." FURTHER PROTESTS. BOUND TABLE CONFERENCE URGED.
(Per Press Association). TIMAEU, September 10. A meeting of the Timarii Second Division League to-night passed resolutions supporting the decisions of the Leagues' Conference, and urging Cabinet, with a view to shaping the necessary legislation, to hold a round table conference with the League's representatives. The Temuka League, at an emergency meeting, protested against the calling up of Class A, or holding a ballot before the passing of legislation amending the allowances and pensions,
ANOTHER VIGOROUS PBOTEBT. (Per Press Association.) , NAPIER, September 10. The executive of the Napier Second Division League carried the following yeffilutioi! to-night:—"That the executive of the Napier Second Division League cuter its protest against the proposal of the Government to call up the Second Division reservists before declaring its attitude in the matter of pension and separation allowances." •
