Referring to cables and cable ratt'3 in the House of Representatives this afternoon, Sir Joseph Ward said he was always in favour of a reduction of rates on the principle that cheaper rates resulted in increased business, foreseen happening's had to be taken into consideration, and nothing could well lie done in the way or reducing rates until the war was over. The Hon, R, Heaton Rhodes asked whether the Minister could say anything about the laying of an Atlantic cable, Sir Jospeh Ward said ho was in possession of certain information, but it was of a confidential nature, It was, however, satisfactory information, There was no vote this year for tho Pacific cable becnuso it was now paying its way.
