SUBURBAN TRAINS.
NO CONCESSIONS. WELLINGTON, July 21.. The Government has failed to como to a decision regarding'the demand of an influential section of the House that the Railway Department should resume the running of some of the suburban night trains. What caused delay in the matter is thai: it is bound up with Hie general problem of recruiting, and the organisation of New Zealand's remaining man-power, The Railway Department maintains that every call upon its staff for military duties will now mean further curtailments of trains. .Parliament would not be likely to do anything to restrict essential goods services, so that' the pressure of events is rather forcing further reductions in passenger facilities than the reverse. It is understood tho position the Government is in regarding siiJinban train facilities is that if it decides for some concessions it will bo obkged to put ihrougli the House a Bill exempting the Railway Department from the provithe Military Service.
