SCHOOL COMMITTEE GRANTS

DEPUTATION TO MINISTER, Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 20. Representatives of school committees who have been conferring in Wellington, waited on'the Minister of Education to-day, asking for increased allowances. Owing to the greatly advanced cost of stationery and other materials to be supplied to pupils,.committees could not maintain the schools, They asked for an additional eighteenpeuce per head for incidentals, which.would mean an additional £BOOO to £12,000 yearly. The Minister (the HOII.J. A, Hnuaii) promised to bring the matter before Cabinet. In examining the Education Boards' accounts, he had found a state of financial affairs calling for remedial treatment. The boards should be able to njfako more liberal grants to committees.
