YESTERDAY AFTERNOON'S SESSION, MINISTERS' REPLIES TO • QUESTIONS, (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 17. The House met at 2.150 p.m. Replying to Mr McC'ombs, the Premier said that so far as he knew there was an embargo on the export of butter to America. ; In view of the fact that butter was being sold in the chief centres at less than the maximum prico fixed by the Board of Trade, it had been decided to remove the maximum for the present. It could be reinstated at a later date if necessary. Mr Walker asked for a week's leave of absence to 'be granted to Mr P, C. Webb, member for Grey, but as objection was made by some members, the Speaker ruled that Mr Walker must give notice of motion.
Sir Joseph Ward stated that in connection with the charges made against postal officials by the Rev. Howard Elliott, the Government had decided to hold an inquiry, and Mr 11. W. Bishop, senior magistrate, had been asked to undertake the investigation.
