BRITISH TRADE DEVELOPMENT.

VALUE OF EXHIBITIONS.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jitly 10.

Mr E. W. Dalton, British Trade Commissioner, who directed the exhibition of British goods at the Hawera Show, says that such displays undoubtedly serve a useful purpose, and there is no reason why exhibitions of British-manu-factured articles should not be held jointly with agricultural shows in New Zealand. The display at Hawera was experimental, and was undoubtedly successful. It. might be necessary at first to group the British goods under one general control, but he imagined that when representatives of British linns realised the full value of the system they would make their own arrangements for exhibiting their samples, He would like to'see British manufacturers making more use of the existing shows in various parts of New Zealand, and had little doubt they would do so when they became accustomed to the idea. The (inns which exhibited at Hawera appeared well satisfied that such exhibitions would afford in normal times a very useful methood of drawing attention to British goods, and it was not unlikely that after one or two such experiments it might be possible to arrange big exhibitions at frequent intervals in one of the main centres in New Zealand. A very large exhibition could be originated through the medium of the New/Zealand agents of British manufacturers. There was no doubt such exhibitions would form a very important part in the development schemes after the war.
