A sensation was caused in a ring at Blackfiars, when detectives, accompanied by soldiers with lixed bayonets, took possession of the building, which was crowded with three thousand spectators at a boxing contest, .The police demanded that every eligible man show his papers and explain why he was not in khaki, Instantly the dodgers and. shirkers in the. crowd attempted to escape. Fifty were arrested and marched in procession down the streets' to the police station, amid the loud .applause of the wounded soldiers in the vicinitv.
