The death is reported of Mr ,T. A, X. Ricdcl,' who was for years manager of the Dresden (now The Bristol) Piano Company. He retired from the firm in 1909 owing to failing health. His wife pre-deceascd him a few years ago. A, very old and highly-esteemed resident of Lower Hutt, .Mr Frederick George Smith, died there on Sunday at the advanced age of eighty-two years. The late Mr Smith was bom in Warwickshire (England) and arrived in Wellington with his wife and family in the ship La Hogue in 187-1. Ever since that time he hail resided in Wellington, with, the exception of a short period when he visited Sydney. The deceased gentleman settled in Neivtown when there were only some eight residents there, and built one of the first house's in the locality. For about thirty-live years he was in the employ of Messrs E. W. Mills and Co., as a moulder, when the h'rni'x foundry was on the present site of Messrs.Levin and Company's large warehouse. He. leaves a widow, ■ four daughters, and three sons, the hit-' ter being 'Messrs F. W. Smith (Dannevirke), Mark Smith (Wellington), and Thomas Smith (Oamaru). The daugli-', tors are Mrs C. Palmer, of Kilbirnie; Mrs Timmins, of Melrose; Mrs J'. Dawn, of Epuni Hamlet; and the vonngest is Mrs I)' Hath, of Auckland. ' There died on Saturday a very wellknown ami respected resident of Dunediii in Mr Samuel John Evans, manufacturing chemist. He arrived there over iifty years ago, and was apprenticed In' the late Mr B. Bagley, of George street, after which lie was for several years in business in Xaseby. For the last 20 years he was well known on the ''commercial" road from Bluff to theNorth'Capc. His death was very' sudden. They were married at" St. Mary's, Tiiiinru/in 1861. Both Mr and Mrs Collett were known far and wide, for their generosity and kindness of heart. One gift in LSSO was to pre-' sent all the freestone of which the magnificent .Roman Catholic Church, Teihnka, is built, ft came off the late Mr Collett's property. Mrs Collett leaves two daughters and one son—Mrs P. C. Matthews, Waiaka, Waverley; Mrs H, Maxwell, lircoiihills, Kakahu; and Mr W. 11, Collett, Daisy Hill, Opihi.
