PERSONALS.
The following New Zealanders with the Australian Forces have been reported hilled in action:—C. Holdsworth (next of kin, Mrs F, Kearton, Studholme Junction, sister); and C. Chamberlain (Mr T. Chamberlain, Wiaimate, father). Reported wounded: R, Hamilton (Mr W. Hamilton, Oamaru, brother).
At last night's meeting of the Borough Council his Worship the Mayor (Mr W. H. Frith) made reference to I the approaching departure of .Councillor Davey. He made appreciative reference to' the good work of Councillor Davey during his term of office at the council table, and the value of his contribution to the council deliberations. The mayor's remarks were supplemented by Councillors R. K. Ireland, J. M. Forrester, and A. W. Woodward. A resolution was, framed, to be recorded on the minutes of the council, and a copy of the same to be forwarded to Councillor Davey. The motion was carried with acclamation. Councillor Davey suitably replied. ,
Second Lieutenant W. B. Menzies, whose iiame apepars in to-day's list of killed in action, was the second son of Mr John Menzies 1 ; of Wairiiate, and formerly, schoolmaster at Waituna. On leaving school Lieutenant Menzies'joined the clerical staff of .the Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative' Association, Waiinate, being 'nflerrfards transferred to Hie grain am] produce department. He left with the Main Body as a sergeant in the.South Canterbury Mounted Bifles, went through the Gallipoli campaign, and at the time of his death was in charge oi' the Signalling Corps. He was twenty-four years of age. His elder brother, Gunner J, L, Monzies, is scrying in France. Lieutenant Menzies was a nephew of Mr J. Miller, of Oaiuaru.
