• (by telegraph.) Wellington, November 25. Sir Robert Stout and Messrs Hutchison and Fraser have been Dominated for the city. Mr Duncan was also nominated j but he afterwards withdrew his nomination. The reason given by Mr Duncan for withdrawing from the contest for the city is that he has no wish to split the Liberal vote. At Mr Menteith's meeting to-nighfc Mr Duthie gave a forecast of the general election. He gathered from reliable sources that the Opposition would secure 18 seats m the North Island and the Government 14, while m the south the Government would return 20 and the Opposition 15, making the Government 37 to the Opposition's 33. This was nob counting Hawera, Manawatu and Waikouaiti, where, through the prohibitionists, there were two Opposition candidates m each case, andtha votes would be split. Woodville, November 25. Owing to illness Mr Jensen has retired from the contest for the Pahiatua seat. Napier, November 30. Messrs R. D. M'Lean and S. Carnell have been nominated for the Napier seat. Captain Russell and Mr A. L. D. Fraser are the only nominations for Hawkes Bay. TiMARtf, November 25. Mr J. S, Keith addressed a crowded meeting of electors at the Theatre Royal. He explained that he came forMard at the request of a number of electors who were displeased with Mr Hall-Jones' conduct* and disapproved of Mr F. H. Smith's politics. The speech largely consisted of contrasts of the speeches of Mr Hall* Jones of a year ago with those of the Minister of Public Works of lasb session. He was m favor of the eleotive executive/ old age pensions, eight hours, cheaper railway rates, against the Catholic claims until the Bible was introduced into State schools. On the liquor question, ha would abide by the preseub law, and oppose any change during next Parliament. He announced that his platform was simply measures nob men, and declined to make Bny choice of a leader. A vote of thanks was accorded. Christchuroh, November 25. Mr J. Joyce, S. R. Webb, and W. Jacques have been nominated for Lyttelton; A. Saunders for Selwyn, W. W< Tanner and G. M'lntyre for Avon, D. Buddo for Kaiapoi, Messrs W. W. Collins, R. M. Taylor, C. Lewis, H. J Beswick. M. Donnelly, W. Gallon, and J. A. H, Marciel have been nominated for Christ* church. Drnedin, November 25. Mr John Graham was to-day nominated for the Taieri seat, J. W. Thomson for the Clutha, Murray Aston, W. Hutchison, J. A. Millar, M. J. S. Mackenzie, and D. Pinkerton for Dnnedin City, A. Morrison and T. K. Sidey for Caversham, W. J. M. Larnach and 0. 0. Rawlins for Tuapeka. Blenheim, November 25. Thomas Lindsay Buick and Charles Haughton Mills have been nominated for the Wairau seat.
