AUCKLAND. August 20.
On arrival at Tarukenga, guard Turner, of the Rotorua train, was missing. A search party found him down the embankmeut near the Maoukau station unconscious. Hia head was badly cut and his back hurt. He had fallen off the train when passing from a carriage to the ran. He was taken to the Rotorua Sanatorium. Mr Gilrath, Government veterinary surgeon, has decided that the disease amongst Kasab's cattle at Ohaupo is anthrax, and the disease has probably been brought over from Australia in bone manure. More cattle died yesterd»y. At the annual meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club the report showed a slight loss. The total amount of stakes for the past season was Ll7lO, against L 2560 the previous year. There is no intention of a further reduction.
