A woman applied at tho Greenwich Police Court for reliof from tho poor box. Tho magistrate told tho woman that she must bring a rocommondation from a minister, or some ono who know her. The applicant said sho did not go to church. Tho magistrate said that in Greenwich nobody scorned to go to church. Ho novor saw such a godless lot of people. A clerk, undergoing a long term of imprisonment for fraud, desired a sot of artificial tooth. Thoso tho prison authorities declined to supply. Tho prisoner then wroto to tho firm of bankers lio had defrauded, promising to give valuable information if Ihoy provided him with tho teeth. Tho firm forwarded LI to procuro tho samo, and tho prisonor sont tho bankers information which enabled them to recover Ll6OO of which they had boon defrauded.
