Within the past few days two writs for alleged libel have been served on the proprietor of tho Wairarapa Star, one at the instance of Groville, a surveyor, and the other by N. Nathan, turf comtuin■ion agent, claiming LlOOO and L6OO respeotivaly. Both actions refer to comments in the paper. Abont 2000 claims for onroltrent on the City roll have been received. Thft Chief Jastice and Registrar of the Supreme Coarb have been served with notices not to haud ovur the L2OO deposited aa security In the Stout election petition case to anyone bub the petitioners. One of the petitioners filed an affidavit flora© time ago stating that ho had not put up tho security nor authorised any ons to do so. At pieaent" tho notice is supposed to be served with a view of ascertaining tho3e who lodged the money. The Auckland representatives to tho New Zealand Rifle Association meeting left last night. The remainder of the North Island competitors leave to-mor-row. A ateady south rain set in last night ani has continued over to-day.
