Lord Glasgow has donated Ll5O to th« Auckland Anglican Home Mission fund. Two stowaways on the Alameda, Michael Walsh and Walter Hyaines, were fined 50s, or three weeks' imprisonment. At a meeting of the Auckland branch of the Educational Institute, a resolution was passed calling the attention of th» Board of Education to anomalies in tho salaries of teachers in the colony, with a view to approaching the Minister of Education to get the adoption of a colonial system. i Arrired— Alameda, mail steamer, from Sydney. Mn Cowan, otherwise known ai Madama Zenobia, was charged at the Police Court to-day with a breach of tho Police Offences Act by imposing on Mm Parker by fraudulent representation to tell her fortune by cirda, with a riew to obtain money, Mr B*ume defended. He argued that the offenco was not within the scops of the Act. The Magistrate said that the English clause dealing with palmistry and witchcraft was not included in the Act, and upheld the contention and dismissed tho information.
