William Sanders, late pocond oflicer of the steamer Tainui, at the Rosidont Magistrate's Court this morning, ploadod guilty to smuggling 41 boxes of cigara while on board the steamer at Lyttolton, on October sth. lie was fined L6O and costs L 3 10s. The money whs pnid. Lady Zetland has been scratched for the Stewards' Stakes at the 0,J.0. meet* ing. , October 18. The opening of the boating season yesterday was ai tended with splendid weather, and the attendance proved this function to have lost none of its popularity. Henry Thomson, commodoro, presided, and declared the season opened after a formal parade of fifty boats, gaily decked, Lnrd Onalow viewed the procession from a house overlooking the river.
