CHRISTCHURCH. October 15.

The Premier and Mrs Ballance arrived this morning. A large number of friends waited on him at the hotel. Mr T.»ylor, M.H It., interviewed him, with the object of hating put in circulation the money Toted to Canterbury, The Knights of Labor waited on him with a similar re quest. He promisee] to see what could be done. This afternoon a deputation from the Education Board will wait on him respecting the grant for school buildings. The Premier will attend the banquet in honor of the Agent-General this evening, when it is expected that the Governor, Mr Rolleston, and Sir John Hall will also be present. A deputation from the North Canterbury Education Board waited on the Premier to-day, representing the necessity for expending L 10.500 for new buildings in the district out of the vote for that purpose passed last cession. The deputation expressed the opinion that the rate to be levied toward tho maintenance j of schools would bo resisted by the public. The Premier promised that the deputation's request should be laid before the Minister for Education at the earliest opportunity, when doubtless Canterbury would receive au adequate proportion of the vote consistent with the necessities of the other parts of the colony. The banquet to Mr Perceval to-night was a great success, and was largely attended. The toast of the guest was proposed by his Excellency the Governor. Mr Perceval, on responding, was received with tremendous applause. The Premier replied to the toast of the Ministry, and was well received.
