The former decided to tako legal advico as to the action of the men in withdrawing on tho grounds that they had broken their own rules, which provide for- notice being given for changes. A letter to this effect has boon sent to tho Union. At a meeting of wharf laborers an animated discussion took place on the question of the employment of stevedores. It was decided to rescind yesterday's resolution, and allow stevedores to carry out existing contracts for twelve months. In view of tho demand* put forward by tho various labor bodies, tho steamship owneis have decided to tako a firm stand. Conferences are being arranged vritli tho uoamen to-morrow, and tho marino oflicois and engineers next week.
