INVERCARGILL. February 25.
At the Supreme Court this afternoon John Patterson, of Mossburn, charged with the attempted rape of his daughter, aged 131 yean, was acquitted. The girl gave evidence entirely at variance with the statement* first made to the police. The Crown prosecutor asked that the evidence of these statements should be admitted, as the girl was not a hostile witness. Mr Justice Williams, after argument, admitted the evidence, but announced that if necessary he would refer the question to the Court of Appeal. There is only one more case to try, amd there is no civil business.
