AUCKLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

> « (by telegraph.) Auckland, October 10. The Chamber of Commerce yesterday appointed Mr Clarke, who is at present in England, a delegate to represent the Chamber at the Conference in London of Chnmber3 of Commerce of the British Empire. The Chairman (Mr Graves Aitkeu) in the course of his address congratulated the Chamber on the excellent report of the South Saa trade furnished by their delegate. The Committee ap proved of the delegate's recommendation, and urged the formation of a South Sea Trading Company, and which Bhould ba floated in Auckland by commercial men. The duty of the Chamber ceased when they ventilated the subject. Referring to sug^oßted immigration a* a cure of the depression, the Chairman said he thought any scheme of immigration should be promoted with great caution. They should carefully discriminate as to the class of labor required. Many manufactures would pay well, especially if the ri»ht kiud of labor could be procured at fair wages, while, on the other band, certain departments of trade were overstocked with workers, who were obliged to seek employment outside of their own callings. Referring to tbe mining industry, Mr Aitken said it was more than ever apparent that steps should be taken to establish a school of mines.
