IRISH ITEMS.

In reply to a question from Mr Parnell in the House of Commons, on April 10, the Chief Secretary for Ireland justified the police for their action on several occasions during the Prince's visit to Cork and Mallow, and curtly added that the government declined to order any enquiry, as desired by Mr Parnell. Mr Parnell thinks that the effect of the Prince's visit will be to stimulate the Nationalistic workers.

It is stated that the Queen has arranged to visit Ireland in the autumn. The Right Hon. John Baish, present Attorney-General of Ireland, has been appointed Lord Chancellor of Ireland, vice Sir Edward Sullivan, deceased.

Government intends to buy for Prince Victor, eldest son of the Prince of Wales, as a permanent plaoe of residence in Ireland, the celebrated Brian Place. This magnificent seat is located at Navan, in Coun'y Meath, between the rivera Boyne and Black waler.

The Irish Local Government BUI will probably b« introduced in Parliament before the cloie of the present session. The new measure provides for a properly elected council in each county, whose duty it shall be to conduct administrative business hitherto relegated to land (?) juries, and provision is also made for a central council in Dublin, to be elected by the county councils. The council will discharge the functions of education, public works, etc. It ia also meditated to abolish the Lord Lieutenant, am) create a Secretary of State for Ireland, but this is still undecided. It is not unlikely that the measure will be passed this year.
