GREAT FIRE AT AUCKLAND.
(by telegraph.) Auckland, June 1. Owen and Graham's wholesale warehouse, Queen-street, was discovered to ba on fire at a quarter to eight this morning. The fire originated in the basement storey, used as a packing department, and the _ flames went up the lift to the fourth T storey, which contains silks, fancy goods, &c, and this portion of the building was completely gutted. The fire brigade got the fire under in half an hour, but not before the whole building was completely drenched with water. Insurances on the stock and building are L 49,000, and the loss is roughly estimated at L14,C30. Later. The loss In Owen and Graham's fir* is estimated at L 30,000. Building : L2OOO in the New Zealand office ; LIOOO in the Norwich Union.
