NAPIER. September 26.
Mr John Chambers, an old Hawke'a Bay sottlor, now in England, writes a letter on the frozen meat trado, which is published in the Herald. He has inspected varioun refrigerators, and obtained all the information trom managers of refrigerating companies. Ilia letter bears out all the information on the subject previously published in colonial papors, his estimates of tho capital required for local and colonial companies being ten thousand pounds at the outside, which would enable a company to purchase stock as well as freeze for stockownors who shipped on thoir own account. Tallerman's Company is prepared to supply the transit of fivo to six hundred tons a month if they are guaranteed moat, to be frozen and delivered free on board in tho colony. Tho freight to London, including guarantee and all charges, would bo about LlB por ton dead weight of meat. Mr Chambers adds that ho finds no prejudice existing against the meat, but on the contrary both consumers and salesmen express themselves anxioua for constant larrgo supplies. A hftutio escaped from tho Asylum on Thursday, by making a holo m tho roof of hia cell with a pocket knife, but was soon recaptured.
