AUCKLAND. Jauary 31.
The house of Mr George, at Mauku, was burnt down during the absence of the owner. It was uninsured. At the annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Scotland, a letter wm read from the Wcotland Lodpe of Fivemasom, asking the assistance of the P.G Lodge towards relieving the necessities of Brother Lazar, aged 70, and blind and incapable, and providing for his faniilv After expressing sympathy, the matter was referred to the P.G. Committee, with power to act. Patrick O'Keefe has been sentenced to four months' imprisonment for an indecent assault upon a child. A landlord named Edward Haney has been fined 40s and costs for having an insecure well, a child having been dror'ned therein.
