Mr George Elliot Barton has withdrawn from his candidature for tlio Mayoralty in consequence of boinjj counsll in several cases in which the Corporation aro concerned, and in some of which ho would have to appear against himself. Hone Naho having been appointed ft Minister, Mr Grace, junior, lias been appointed interpreter to the Executive. Nahe sitting on the Ministerial benches, not with the other Nativo representatives, necessitates another interpreter. In roply to Colonel Jirett, Colonol Whitmore stated that Sir W. Jervoinc would be here about the third week in December, and would commence hit
examination of the defences of the Colony in the north after having first visited Tasmania. 'lho Education Bill was recommitted for the purpose of making certain alterations in it. The money clause (the oijihth), was ordered to be struck out after a division, by a majority of two votes.
