The " Press" of the 17th says -.—Yesterday morning Lyttolton was agitated with the reoort that those aboard the Arawala had scon an immense marine monster off Oamaru. Tho passengers and stewards spread the story, one gentleman affirming that the monster was nt least 100 yards along. On making inquiries, however, our reporter discovered tli at the monster in question consisted of a row of black fish, that, showing rapidly, were taken by tho uninitiated as pnrta of one great wholo. The officer of the watch had been so amused by the report that ho had failed to correct the error into which tho tho passengers had fallen.
