PROTESTANT ALLIANCE FRIENDLY SOCIETY.
(To the Editor of the North Otago Times.) Sir, — As the advertisement bearing the above heading seems to be a mystery to the Oatnaru people (or, at any rate, to some of them), I have been desired to give some explanation. First, then, the Society is a Friendly Society, similar to sister societies, such as the Oddfellows and others, with all their pecuniary advantages, and their friendship, love, and truth ; but the main principle is Protestantism, and Protestants only are admitted as members, but members of all Protestant denominations are eligible. There is a prosperous Lodge of the Order in Dunedin, and one or two others are about to be formed ; and the Secretary of the Dunedin Lodge being here on business, I invite working men and others desirous to co-operate, to attend the meeting advertised for Monday evening, when fuller information will be given. As to the initials D.D.M., which seem to be a mystery to you, Sir, I subscribe myself in full. Yours, &c, J. Walker, Deputy District Master of New Zealand. Albion Boarding House. Feb. 12, 1876.
