The District Roads Bill was read a first time. In reply to Mr Brodio, the Secretary said tl Government would consider the advisability of bringing in a Bill to amend the Cemetery Ordinance, so far as Clyde was concerned. In reply to Mr Clarke, the Solicitor said the delay in handing over the township reserves to the Corporation of Milton, and the non-investment of the Tokomairiro Recreation Ground in Trustees, wai owing to the delay in getting the Crown Grants. On the motion of the Treasurer, it was resolved that money should be advanced for the extirpation ofythistles on the Maori Reserve, on condition that the Native Commissioner would undertake to repay it out of the first rents received for leases of the land. On the motion of the Treasurer, the House went into Committee, to consider certain resolutions on Immigration. They involved — 1. A continuance of the present system of assisted female immigration, and of guaranteed passages. 2. A system of giving assistance to the amount of one-half the passage money to agricultural laborers, and thoso fitted for pastoral employment. 3. The appointment of an Agent, especially to attend to Immigration and to give information as to the advantages offered by the Province. After some discussion, attention was called to the state of the House, and the sitting was adjournod to Monday, at two o'clock.
