SECOND DAY— FRIDAY, 23rd FEBRUARY.

The weather was finer, if possible, than on the previous day, and the attendance on the course was much more numerous, owing to its being recognized as a general holiday in town. A stiff breeze blowing at intervals rendered the intensity of the sun's rays less oppressive to the spectators, while the nasty mud pools on the course itself had in a great measure disappeared. This must have been a great comfort to the riders, who on Thursday invariably came up to the winning post in a most mud-be8 pattered state. The Grand Stand was again well-patronized, and the respective booths appeared to be driving a roaring trade. Tipsy people, however, wo are glad to be able to state, were the exception rather than the rule, and not the slightest contretemps occurred to mar the enjoyments of the day.

Danscy's g g Maori Boy, 6 yrs, lOst ... ... 0 At the start, Zohrab and Regnum got a slight advantage, and went off abreast, Shepherdess following close up. This position was unaltered, till in the straight run home Regnum left Zohrab with ease, and Shepherdess came up into the second place. Three lengths separated the first and second horses, Zohrab being about the same distance behind the latter. Altogether this was a splendid race, and well-contested.

Betting : 3 to 2 on Dolphin against field ; latest betting, Dolphin even against field, and even against Antoinette. There was a good start, and Antoinette went off with the lead ; Tommy and Dolphin running together. Soon after, Dolphin collared Antoinette, and ran neck and neck for a considerable distance, when Antoinette put on a spurt and won as she liked, to the great chagrin of Dolphin's friends.

OAMARU CUP, Value 100 sovs. Open to all comers. Entrance, £6. Distance, two miles and a-half. M.P.W. Six entries. W. T. Snell's School Boy, 4 yrs .. (N. McKay) 1 A. Dansey's g g Maori Boy, 6 yrs . . ... ... 0 Q-. M'Pherson's b g Zohvab 5 yrs . ... ... 0 D. Kellas' g f Shepherdess 4 yrs ... . . . 0 Idle Boy and Dolphin were scratched. School Boy was decidedly the favorite, and was backed freely against the field. Maori Boy had also backers, the distauce being suitable for him. At the start, School Boy led, followed by Zohrab and Shepherdess, Maori Boy holding back. As the winningpost was passed the first time, the " Maori" pulled up aud took second position in the race. About a mile from home, Shepherdess made an effort, and drew considerably closer, but could not keep the pace up. School Boy led all the way, and won with great ease. Maori Boy, the second horse, was 40 yards in the rear; Zohrab as much behind him. School Boy carried 91bs over- weight.

SELLING- STAKES, Of £25. Entrance, £2. Distance, one mile and ahalf. O.J.C. weights. "Winner to be sold for £100. If entered to be sold for £90, allowed "lbs ; if for .£80, allowed 14lbs ; if for £60, allowed 281bs ; if for £50, allowed 351bs. This race was a certainty for Thomas, who declared to win with Miss Foote. Spider made the running at the outset, but was quickly caught up. The race was quite a gift to the winner. Immediately after the race, Miss Foote was exposed for sale by Mr M. It. Miller, and knocked down for L60 to Mr Mackay.
