The " Mark Lane Express," in an article on the above subject, gives »ome interesting information on the deliveries from Australasia and other British Colonies. The Australian Colonies supplied as follows : — • Lb. Lb. In 1823 534,520 In 1853 44,076,010 „ 1833 4,195,440 „ 1863 77,373,446 „ 1843 17,433,780 On comparing the whole wool imports in 1844 with those of 1863, we arrive at a general increase of 111,622,8881b ; and to this progress Australia, the South Afiican Colonies, and Bx-itisu India contribute as follows : — Australia ... ... ... 59,571,199 South Africa... ... ... 17,969,474 British India 18,753,982 Total ... ... 96,29i,655 We thus arrive at the curious fact that of the whole increase the three great groups of British Colonies contributed 96,294,6551b, and other parts of the -worldSpain, Germany, South America, kc— only 15,328,2281b. Of a gross total of 177,496,6441b received last year, 77,173,4461b, or 4^.60 per cent., came from Australia; while in 1844 the same quarter of the world contributed 17,602,2471b out of 65,713,7611b, or only 26.15 per cent.
