Kaitaia Speedboat Unfortunate
MISSED QUALIFYING IN N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS Mr. W. Luxford experienced only bad luck when he raced his boat “Let’s Go” at the Onerahi Regatta. In launching his craft, facilities for such were so indifferent that the boat slid under the water to some quite considerable degree, and the result was that the motor took in water. Mr. Luxford and his mechanic did the best they could with the engine, and managed to get to the starting line. For the first lap of the race the boat’s engine behaved well, but turning the buoy for the second lap trouble developed, and despite the efforts of the crew the position could not be rectified. Good judgment and seamanship enabled “Let’s Go” to run a good second to the “Thumper,” but this minor placing robbed Mr. Luxford of qualifying for the New Zealand Speedboat Championship, though this qualification could b e gained if Mr. Luxford took his boat to Auckland and won there in any race for which he might decide to enter prior to the championships being raced.
