Borough Council

MONTHLY MEETING Last evening in the Redan Chambers, the Kaitaia Borough Council held its monthly meeting over winch His Worship the Mayor, Mr. D. Archibald Snr. presided. Apologies were received from Cr. R Williams who had been unavoidably detained in Auckland. In the matter 0 f the War Memorial, it was left in the hands of the Town Clerk to arrange the next meeting of the committee that had been set up. Mr. Watts, the Borough Foreman, made report that there had been a considerable amount of damage caused by the last big storm, and this had particular reference to Worth Street where residents there had parked cars and trailers with a wheel in the concrete channelling. This had dammed the storm water, having the effect of causing the water to wash over the road and sweep away the metal from the surface. It was desirable that residents when parking keep the wheels of their vehicles from out of the channels. Council decided that rates not oaid on or before the 28th day of March would be subject to the usual 10 percent penalty. It was decided that the Public Works Department be asked to proceed with the erection of the footbridge in Redan Road beside the existing traffic bridge. This will cost in the vicinity of £846, the work being done on a £3 to £1 subsidy basis. The tender of S. Kemp and Sons at £907/6/11 was accepted for the erection of the public convenience which will be sited on that piece of ground beside the Kaitaia Hotel. Permission was granted the Naitaia Aero Club to drop pamphlets from an aeroplane on Commerce Street next Friday, with the object of advertising the air pageant on the Saturday. These will be dropped from a heght of about 500 feet.
