The Taipa Women’s Institute held their June meeting at the residence of Mrs. May, Mrs. A. Garton presiding over a good attendance. The meeting was held in the form of a social afternoon to farewell Mrs. Joe Hancox who is leaving the district to reside in Whangarei. Mrs. Garton in a tew well chosen words, farewelled Mrs. Hancox and presented her with a spray and a gift in recognition of her good work when a member of the Institute. Mrs. B. Martin gave a demonstration on how to make a buttonhole, and Mrs. John Garton gave a very humorous reading on a “Recruit in the Army.” Two written competitions were won by Mrs. A. Garton and Mrs. Wallace Garton respectively. The competition for the best scones was won by Mrs. Meenan I, Mrs. A. Garton 2 ; Gent’s buttonholes—Mrs. Meenan and Mrs. May 1, Mrs. A. Garton 3. A dainty afternoon tea brought the meeting to a close.
