MANGONUI NEWS

Motor Accident On Saturday evening last a light motor truck, driven by Mr. Dick Brain of Taipa, left the road near Coopers Beach bridge and capsized over a steep bank. Mrs. Sam Yates was a passenger and both persons received injuries necessitating their being taken to the hospital at Kaitaia. Dr. Cameron who was camping nearby, rendered first aid and conveyed them to Kaitaia where Mr. Brain had several stitches put into a wound. Both patients were able to return with Dr. Cameron after the medical attention. The vehicle was considerably damaged and was towed into Mangonui next day. Dance A pleasant dance was held on Saturday evening, the object being to augment the funds in hand for a rest room. Regatta The Regatta Committee has arlanged with the Ohaeawai Boys’ Brass Band to play on the esplanade on New Year’s Day. This band is well and favourably known in Northland and it will be the first occasion Mangonui will have the pleasure of hearing it.

GOLF FAREWELL On Tuesday evening last members of the Kaitaia Golf Club gathered at an informal function in the Club House to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Stringer. Club President, Mr. A. Stanton, in presenting Mr. and Mrs. Stringer with a toast rack, spoke highly of their services to the Club. The Kaitaia Club would miss both Mr. and Mrs. Stringer, said Mr. Stanton, as he wished them all the very best in their new home. Mr. Stringer replied, making reference to the very fine golf that both he and Mrs. Stringer had enjoyed whilst in Kaitaia.

PERIA’S PROGRESS IN SPORT Three of the four teams representing Peria in different sports earned well-deserved victories last weekend. Both the senior and junior cricket elevens were victorious over Victoria Valley and Mangataiore respectively, while the Peria A junior tennis team had a win over Pukepoto. The B team however, went down t u Takahue. That such a small district as Peria can achieve such results is extremely meritorious. Keer.ess is their keynote out there, and if the teams continue to produce the form that they have shown it will not be long before all four are calling the tune.
