Mr. and Mrs. I. B. Stanton left the Lynton yesterday to reside in their home in Awanui Road. Mrs. A. F. MacKenzie left on Sunday for a week’s holiday in Whangalei. Mrs. A. G. R. Wilkinson, Miss Cis Wilkinson, Mrs. Ken Thompson and son returned to Auckland yesterday. Mr. Ralph Edge of Whangarei and Mr. Perry White spent the weekend with Perry’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. White. We are sorry to report the death at the Mater hospital of Mr. Osward Haigh, a Whangarei builder well known throughout the North. Dr. Alex Hodge and daughter Mabel spent the weekend with the Rev. and Mrs. L. R. Gilmore, returning to Auckland on Monday via Russell. Miss Hodge has recently completed her training at the Kaitaia annexe. Mr. Ken Stensness is holidaying in Hastings. Mr. George Garmes of Whangarei N.A.F. visited the Kaitaia branch this week t 0 complete the interior Christmas decorations. Mr. Les Subritzky of the R.N.Z.N. is spending leave with his parents, of Worth Street. Mr. and Mrs. P. S. Johnson left this morning for Whangarei and a tour of the north. Miss Daphne Beard has arrived in Kaitaia where she will commence duties in the Mangonui County Hospital. Mr. Stan Wrack commenced work this week after many months off with a broken leg. Ex-Northerner Attends Postal Conference Abroad To attend a conference in New York of postal experts from countries which are members of the United Nations, the Director-General of the Post Office, Mr. P. Cryer, has left New Zealand by air. He is accompanied by Mr. P. F. Stevens, of the postal division of the head office staff. Mr. Peter Stevens, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Stevens,' formerly of Fairburns, commenced his career at the Kaitaia Post and Telegraph Dept, as a messenger boy, in the year 1916.
