Pukepoto Concert

Over 200 people filled the Rarawa Hall, Pukepoto, on Wednesday evening .when members of the Young People’s Club presented a most successful concert. Door takings amounted to £l2 6/6. Object of the concert was to finance a trip by the boys and girls to Taipa in a special bus to compete in several haka events. Members of the Pamapuria Concert Party were present to watch the Pukepoto boys and girls in action. They will be presenting a concert themselves in the A. and P. Hall this evening.

At the conclusion of the concert, Mr. John Cameron, on behalf of the Club, thanked one and all for coming along and making the concert a success. He spoke first in Pakeha and then in Maori. Special thanks were given to Mrs. P. Simeon, Miss M. Robson and Mr. G. Anderson for their untiring efforts and for the instructon they had given the children. The concert opened with the singing of the Natonal Anthem, and of “Silent Night” led by the choir. The programme then presented was well organised with performers not wasting any time. The crowd cheered and roared a.s the boys did their hakas, and there were several encores. Stage manager was Mr’. John Cameron, and he also compered the programme in a humorous vein. After the concert a dance was held, the music being supplied by the “Five Stars” orchestra and the crowd was in fits as the orchestra got warmed up. Supper was served by Miss A. Gregory and Miss W. Yates and dancing continued until 12.30.

Beacon and Light at Waipap 111 the very near future there will be no excuse for anyone by-passing the Waipapakauri turnoff on the Ninety Mile beach. The Automobile Association are erecting a beacon at the turnoff while the Mangonui County Council will be installing the light as soon as the area is reticulated.
