Meeting of Mangonui Cricket Association

Arrangements for the visit of a strong Auckland City and Suburban eleven to the Mangonui County over the Christmas holidays are well in hand. Matters relating to the tour were discussed at an Association meeting last Tuesday evening when delegates were present from all the Clubs in the County. Mr. J. M. Dawson presided.

Fourteen players will definitely be making the trip, it was reported by Mr. R. Russell, and provision has been made to accommodate these men at the Kaitaia Hotel. The touring team had advised the Association that they were looking for cricket on six days commencing Friday, December 27. The following itinerary was drawn up to be submitted to Auckland : December 27 and 28. Versus a combined Victoria Valley - Mangataiore team, commencing at 10.30 and finishing at 4.30, on a ground to be arranged. December 30 and 31. Versus a combined Kaitaia-Nomads-Peria team commencing at 10.30 a.m. and finishing at 5.30 p.m., with one hour for lunch ; on the Oval. December 1 and 2. Versus the County Reps., playing the same hours is above, on the Oval. Thick stumps of the type now used in Auckland, will be supplied, while the Association will provide the balls for all matches. Mr. J. M. Dawson was appointed official umpire for the Association and Mr. H. J. Switzer official scorer. Reception and entertainment arrangements were put in hand, and Mr. J. M. Dawson, President, felt confident that the visit would be a successful one and one that wouid do Mangonui cricket a great deal of good. Delegates felt that the appointment of the County captain should be made after the selectors, Messrs. R. Russell, H. A. Findlay and W. Switzer, had announced the representative team. This team will be selected after tomorrow’s matches. It was finally resolved that the Emergency Committee and tht County selectors appoint the captain of the County team. Mr. A. A letter from the Northland Cricket Association stated that a North ! v. South Northland game had been 1 arranged for January 29, and nomin--1 ations from Mangonui were invited. ' The North team would comprise players from Whangarei, Bay of Islands, Hokianga and Mangonui, while the South team would include Rodney, Mid - Western and Northern Wairoa players. It was left in the hands of the Secretary to advise the Northland Association that a race meeting was to be held in the Mangonui County that day, but nominations would be forthcoming. A suggestion had also been made that a Far Northern eleven be entered in the Country Week tournament !in Auckland at Christmas. The resignation of Mr. N. K. Boyd from the Association was accepted with regret. Junior matches in the future will be played the same hours as senior games.
