Whatuwhiwhi Notes
The terakihi are running well at present. Three men had a haul of 150 on Wednesday and there was another large catch yesterday. Everyone is enjoying the feast of fish, and quite a number have been smoked by Mrs. Sam Ru. Smoked terakihi is a gastronomic delicacy too rarely tasted. » All this week the south-westerly has been blowing the people here call it the “kumara’ ’wind—it is not at all popular as it dries out the gardens in a very short period. Many of the young kumara and corn crops are already looking very “tired”— the Peninsula needs rain again. Preparations for Christmas and holiday activities are well forward, but of these more will be heard at a later date.
